Matthew Gascoigne

Matthew is a Director of NoiseAssess Ltd working out of the Sheffield and Chesterfield offices.

Matthew graduated from Durham University in Engineering Science and initially worked for a civil and structural engineering consultancy in North Wales before moving into a local authority engineering department in South Yorkshire.  He worked in traffic engineering, highway design, bridges and structures, drainage, land drainage and reservoirs.  He spent time supervising various construction projects on site and progressed to team leader level.  During that time he also became a Chartered Engineer through the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Matthew then took time out of Engineering and went to Japan to teach English and help some churches.  He lived with his wife and 3 young children in an area where very few people spoke English.  The children soon became fluent with Mum and Dad doing their best to keep up.

After 3 years in Japan he returned to Sheffield and through contact with a friend became interested in acoustics.  He took the Institute of Acoustics Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control and worked for 3 years for a small Sheffield company as an acoustic consultant and product manager for acoustic modelling software.

Then followed 12 years working for a national acoustics consultancy during which time he opened an office in Sheffield and became Regional Director with responsibility for a number of offices.  He has been the acoustic expert on many design teams for large projects and has provided expert witness evidence on noise matters.

In 2010 Matthew and Richard founded NoiseAssess Ltd to provide a full range of acoustics, noise and vibration consultancy service to clients across the country.

Matthew likes walking in the Peak District especially on Kinder Scout and has enjoyed doing some dancing with his wife at a local dance school.  Not quite ‘Strictly’ standard yet but they can now manage a passable cha cha cha and tango.
